Any UK airspace users expecting to fly this coming Thursday night are being told to be aware of the presence of a vintage flying sleigh travelling at high speed around the country.

The sleigh, described as performing ‘high energy manoeuvres,’ will be unable to comply with the normal rules of the air. Air crews are also recommended to be on alert when transiting areas with ‘high concentrations of chimneys.’

SANTAM 2015

Earlier this month, NATS released a video showing the behind the scenes work that goes into Santa’s flight plan each year. With Christmas Eve now fast approaching, it’s important for pilots and crews to be prepared.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas from NATS – safe flying!

What a great blog really entering in to the safety of Santa’s sleigh. I work for Queens Harbour Master Portsmouth and when Santa’s sleigh reaches less than 500 feet we take over and approve him to enter the harbour to deliver to the ships before he takes off again back to your control Keep up the good work
Merry Christmas and a safe new year
